Blind Loyalty

I followed you, my beloved belief,

Into the vast deserts of evidence,

And for you my love, forged seas of nonsense

From my emotions, to bathe in relief.

I prioritized your existence, chief,

And toiled to praise your sweet benevolence

To my fears, by giving false prevalence,

To the rare raindrops--to appease my grief.

Yet no matter how much I look around,

Of outward reward, I fail to see sign,

And now realize, that progress, you confound;

You have brought great suffering to my kind,

And rendering neighbors’ well being crowned

Will bring peace to the world and my drowned mind.
